You can see down the side of the house a stairway which provides access to our 'possum hideaway' upstairs. This is currently a separate unit in the house, connected by a closed internal staircase (stay tuned…), which a friend of mine is renting off us for the time being until we need it (which won't be for some time). Great way to help pay the bills. Again, we need to get painting here, as well as render the brickwork to match the rest of the house, and perhaps do some stuff eventually to ensure that it's ok by council standards - we're pretty sure that approval wasn't obtained before the staircase was put up and we eventually want to do some more structural work upstairs which will require council to inspect at that time (stay tuned…).
